Officer George Connery was beaten to death after being abducted during a traffic stop.
During the stop he got into the suspect’s car to have them drive to the East Side Station to post a $25 bail. One of them died in prison in 1958; one was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Officer Connery as well as another murder but was released in 1962. A third suspect was arrested for possessing an officers’ handgun; he pled not guilty to killing Officer Connery but was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
