Inspector Laurence Doten
Laurence Doten
Inspector Doten was shot and killed while on duty on August 24th, 1930. Inspector Doten was traveling by train in Canada (returning to the United Stated) when a passenger, who was eluding a previous arrest attempt, saw Doten (who was in uniform). Fearing Doten was after him, the passenger pulled a handgun and shot Doten once, killing him. Doten was stationed and living in Minnesota at the time of his death. Doten was a WW1 United States Army Veteran. Doten was survived by his wife and two children.
Another INS Inspector, Lawrence C. Jones, was shot and killed by the same person a short time later. See Inspector Jones entry for further details.
