The Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Association (LEMA) provides services to the family of fallen law enforcement officers when they have lost their lives in the line of duty. Those primary services include working with the family, law enforcement agency, church and funeral home, to coordinate the funeral services for the fallen officer. Specially trained LEMA Honor Guard Members then conduct the actual service-supplying flag details, casket teams, rifle parties, a flag fold, bugle and other honors details as required. Most important-they provide an incident management plan for all involved that includes preparations for dealing with the media, crowd control, procession and motorcade assignments, cemetery planning and other details that can be overwhelming to both the family and agency involved. Law Enforcement Funerals are very expensive, and outside the ability for the agency and family to afford. LEMA's mission is to provide the services needed, at no cost to the family. That is difficult to do, when the immediate needs for these events often exceeds our budget. We can't predict when our services are going to be needed-and we must always be fully prepared.
